Innuendo was first introduced with the 2019 vintage of Implicit Cellars wines. With only one barrel produced, it was an experimental blend of juice from our flagship wine, Privity, and small amounts of juice from blending grapes (much less than the 25% allowed in California Cabernets). Going forward, it will remain a blend of juice from each of our vineyard sources, and perhaps other iconic vineyards throughout the Napa Valley. We hope that the flavor profile of Innuendo gives a subtle hint of the prominent flavors in our other red portfolio wines.
The nose is greeted with aromas of cherry, cocoa and pie crust. Dark fruits, cherry and plum strike a perfect balance with ripe tannins for a memorable experience on the palate.
February 2019 brought heavy rains, but because the vines were in their winter dormancy it did not affect the 2019 crop. Spring continued to be wet with some rain during flowering, and cooler-than-normal temperatures slowed down some of the fruit growth—our 2019 harvest started two weeks later than in prior years. But the summer growing season was near perfect for winegrapes, producing outstanding fruit. Flavors were ahead of sugars, acidity was moderate and color and tannins looked excellent.
