Vintage Notes
The 2022 grape harvest in Oakville, Napa Valley, was a season of contrasts, marked by both challenges and high-quality fruit. After a wet winter, the region faced a heatwave during the summer, which caused some vine stress and uneven ripening. However, Oakville’s diverse terroir helped many vineyards navigate these extremes, leading to a harvest that began earlier than usual in early September. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville’s signature varietal, showed concentrated flavors and firm tannins, while other Bordeaux varietals also benefited from the smaller berries and intense fruit expression. Despite the challenges, the ‘22 vintage promised wines with great depth and complexity, showcasing the resilience of Napa Valley’s growers.

Winemaker Notes
"Deep garnet-purple in color with remarkable depth and saturation, the 2022 *Unprecedented* Napa Cabernet Sauvignon immediately signals concentration and polish. The palate opens with a lush, juicy entry, unfolding layers of sweet cherry, ripe blackcurrant, and dense blackberry compote, framed by lifted red fruit aromatics that add brightness and precision.
On the mouth, subtle undertones of cocoa nib, graphite, and warm baking spice emerge with air, adding complexity without overpowering the fruit. Compact yet finely grained tannins provide a refined structural backbone, seamlessly integrated with vibrant acidity.
The wine carries effortlessly through a long, resonant finish that lingers for nearly two minutes, leaving impressions of dark fruit and savory nuance. I love the tapering out effect that this elegant, focused, and expressive, this reserve bottling captures both richness and restraint.
I believe cellared and cared for well, this wine will survive to 2038 and beyond. 100% New Tarandaud barrique for 28 months, Just 25 cases produced, bottled unfiltered and unfined." ~ Kirk Venge

"The ‘Unprecedented’ bottling is a blend of exceptional sites in Rutherford, Atlas Peak, and Oakville, aged for 27 months in 100% new French oak. A standout in 2022, this wine exudes terrific tannic tension and freshness, delivering a red- and black-toned fruit profile with perfumed aromatics and remarkable intensity. The medium-bodied palate is driven by crunchy red fruit, pomegranate seed minerality, and a vibrant rush of salinity, leading to a long, structured finish.”
