Vintage Notes
The 2023 harvest in Napa Valley's Rutherford AVA unfolded over a long, measured season that gave fruit time to develop balance and complexity. A cool, wet winter restored soil moisture, and mild spring and summer weather supported steady vine growth without major heat stress. The extended hang time encouraged concentrated flavors, refined tannins, and bright acidity. Rutherford's well-drained alluvial soils and warm days produced Cabernet Sauvignon with depth, structure, and elegance. Fruit arrived in excellent condition, and the vintage showed strong promise for purity, balance, and age-worthy character over time.
Winemaker Notes
"Sourced primarily from the heralded Star Vineyard in the renowned Rutherford AVA, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a sensational expression of Napa Valley's finest terroirs.
In the glass, it reveals a deep, opaque ruby color with exceptional concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, offering aromas of ripe red and black fruits including blackcurrant, blackberry, dark cherry, and warm ripe red plum each woven together with notes of cedar, clove and baking spice, and subtle hint of vanilla from its élevage in French oak.
The palate is full-bodied and boldly structured, yet remarkably polished. Ripe red and dark fruits take center stage, framed by fine-grained tannins that create a seamless, luxurious texture. Hints of dark chocolate, espresso, crushed stone, and savory herbs add complexity, while vibrant acidity provides freshness and balance. Aged for 22 months in 66% new French oak, and, like carefully seasoning a fine dish, the wood is beautifully integrated, enhancing the wine's depth without overshadowing its fruit.
This wine finishes long and persistent, with exceptional structure and poise that speak to both its pedigree and longevity. While already compelling with decanting, this Cabernet is built for the cellar. Without question, this 100% Cabernet shall evolve gracefully through 2041 and, under ideal cellaring conditions, has the potential to reward patience for even longer, developing additional layers of nuance and complexity over time.
Bottled unfiltered and unfined, just 120 cases were produced.

Other Notes
95 Points - Decanter Magazine - 3/7/26: "The ‘Acuity’ bottling is sourced primarily from Starr Vineyard in Rutherford, including a block planted by David Abreu, along with some other exceptional valley floor fruit. Alluring red berry fruit is layered with espresso bean spice, a pop of blue fruit intensity and graphite. Rich, chocolatey, grippy and chewy tannins give the wine serious structure, carrying through to a long finish with a saline mineral component. This label is owned by three friends from Ohio – Ed Kuchar, Tony Granata and Leary Cox. Winemaker Kirk Venge began crafting the wines in 2021."
